Dr. John N. Mangieri

Dr. John N. Mangieri received his Ph.D. in reading and language arts from the University of Pittsburgh. He has served as the Chairman of the Reading Department at the University of South Carolina, as Dean of the School of Education at Texas Christian University, and as a university president.

Dr. Mangieri, a Fulbright Scholar, is the author or co-author of 87 professional articles and 13 books. His recent publications for classroom usage include serving as the co-author of the Reading Skills Kit, Powerful Vocabulary for Reading Success, and Word Forward (Scholastic), and he is the co-author of two recently published professional books, Exemplary Literacy Teachers (Guilford Press) as well as The Vocabulary Enriched Classroom (Scholastic). He has served as a member of the Classroom Management Committee of the International Reading Association and was the reading representative on the U.S. Office of Education's National Task Force on Urban Education. He has been a consultant to Wishbone, an educational television series for children, and to the Education Division of the Walt Disney Corporation.

In the past five years, he has served as a consultant to over 100 school districts in 23 states in efforts designed to improve the literacy performance of students. These school districts have not only improved their achievement scores, but many of them have received national and state awards for their improved performance.

Dr. Mangieri presently serves as the Executive Director of the Institute for Literacy Enhancement located in Charlotte, North Carolina.
