Creating excellence from the start

Academic Excellence

Our academic curriculum for the core subjects of language arts, mathematics, social studies, science, foreign language and the arts was developed to be stimulating and challenging, and to meet or exceed state and national standards. For all the details on our academic course of study, view our Curriculum Reference Guide.

Each teacher has a grade level curriculum binder for all core subjects, including pacing guides to provide content for each marking period. Our skilled teachers customize their lessons to meet the needs of their students. They look for opportunities to enrich the curriculum when students need more challenge or additional instruction. Principals closely monitor and observe every classroom to support the teachers and make sure the content is being delivered effectively.

Assessment and accountability

Academic Excellence Girl Reading

In order to assess how well students have mastered content, teachers use formal tests and quizzes, as well as evaluations of classroom work. In the key areas of reading and mathematics, we also use an online assessment program that continually checks each child’s progress, and provides essential information to the teacher. Teachers use this data to monitor academic strengths and needs, and to further customize future instruction for each child.

To define student performance in comparison to national norms, we annually administer the Stanford 10 achievement test to all students. The standardized test data, along with the data from our ongoing online assessment program, provides important information for the teacher to customize and personalize each child’s academic program.
